Who's who at RLT
productions
The committee
Mark Boshoff (Chairman)
Mark joined RLT in 1999 as a novice actor and soon proved to be
a hard-working and dedicated member of the company. From a small
role in Agatha Christie’s “The Hollow” he went
on to star in such productions as “They Don’t Grow on
Trees” and “Theodore in Oils”. In 2003 he made
his directing debut with the Derek Benfield farce “Flying
Feathers”.
An accountant by profession, Mark served as RLT’s Treasurer
from 2002 to 2005. In January 2006 he was elected Chairman.
Oriela van der Walt (Secretary)
Actress, director and now budding playwright, Ori is recognised
as one of RLT’s most industrious members. Since joining the
group in 1998, she has been the driving force behind many of RLT’s
most ambitious productions. Her most recent triumph was a highly
acclaimed staging of Willy Russell’s “Educating Rita”
in October 2005.
Somehow, despite her many other commitments, Ori still finds time
to carry out the many facets of the secretarial portfolio, and was
unanimously re-elected at the 2006 AGM.
Graham Shirey (Treasurer)
A core member of RLT since 1985, Graham has appeared in some sixty
productions (for RLT and other companies) over the last twenty years,
directed two festival plays and written four award-winning one-act
dramas.
Graham served as RLT’s Chairman in 1997 and again from 2002
to 2005. Determined to have a break from chairing meetings and being
the titular head of the society, he declined to stand for election
to the Chair in 2006, but agreed to accept the post of Treasurer.
Trevor Smith
After decades of unstinting dedication to RLT, at the 2006 AGM
the company showed their appreciation by awarding Trevor the title
of “Honorary Life Member”. A life membership is RLT’s
highest accolade and has only been awarded on four previous occasions
in the society’s fifty-six year history.
Trevor has proved himself a consummate actor over the last three
decades, notching up some four nominations in the last few years
alone.
He and his lovely wife, Moira, host RLT’s monthly Committee
meetings.
Delia Leopold
Not only a dedicated actress, with productions such as “The
Anastasia File”, “The Edge of Darkness”, “A
Touch of Spring”, “The Hollow” and “They
Don’t Grow on Trees” (2003) to her credit, Delia is
also an accomplished stage manager and has just been nominated for
her work in the latest SANCTA Full-Length Play Festival Awards.
Michelle Wandrag-Mayburg
An English and drama teacher by profession, Michelle’s crowning
moment with RLT came in the role of the doomed, streetwise Sally
in Graham Shirley’s heart-wrenching drama “Last Winter”,
which won her the Best Actress Award at the 2003 SANCTA One-Act
Play Festival.
She has subsequently appeared in “Cat’s Cradle”
and “Theodore in Oils” and proved a very capable Assistant
Director in “Educating Rita”.
Rene Leopold
Rene, husband of Delia, is responsible, along with colleague Howard
Gibson, for supervising RLT’s set design, painting and construction.
His and Howard’s magnificent sets usually draw the first applause
of the evening as the curtain rises on the opening act.
He has twice made a foray on to the stage, playing a policeman
in “They Don’t Grow on Trees” (2003) and assorted
characters in “Educating Rita”.
Bridgette Koch
A superb young actress, Bridgette off playing housemaids roles
in her teens, “graduated” to “ladies of ill repute”
and capped off the first phase of her career in an acclaimed performance
as the wayward Evy’s down-to-earth daughter, Polly, in Neil
Simon’s “The Gingerbread Lady” in 2005.
2006 is the first of what we hope will be many years on the RLT
Committee.
Sylvia Nikolaoy
Also joining the Committee for the first time, but no stranger
to RLT, Sylvia made her debut with us in “Play On!”
in 2000. She went on to play a show-stopping tart in “Flying
Feathers” in 2003 and last year featured as Maggie in “David’s
Birthday”.
Chantelle Gouws
A new, but enthusiastic and hard working member of the RLT family,
Chantelle excelled herself as one of the props assistants in “Educating
Rita” and we are sure that she will prove a valuable asset
to the 2006 Committee.
To be developed over time to include actors,
directors and back stage crew.
