THEATRE FANS GO WILDE!

Booking is now open for RLT PRODUCTIONS’ much anticipated season of
Oscar Wilde’s immortal comedy
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

First produced in 1895, over a century later “The Importance” remains one of the world’s most loved and oft-revived plays.

Generations have been royally entertained by the antics of two love-struck bachelors, either or neither of whom might be called Ernest, as they overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to win the hands of the women they love.

As RLT pays tribute to this comic masterpiece, enjoy the never ending battle of wits between Jack Worthing (Graham Shirley) and Algernon Moncrieff (Neil Wilson) as they pursue Gwendolen Fairfax (Els de Bundel) and Cecily Cardew (Bridgette Dowson) through town and country, with the imperious and imposing Lady Bracknell (Fiona de Sousa) following hot on their heels, determined to foil their plans at every turn. Their dilemmas are compounded with the addition of the ever so-proper Rev Chasuble (Trevor Smith) and Miss Prism (Oriela van der Walt), a seemingly sweet old lady with a dark past and much to hide. Even the conversation of the servants, Lane (Craig Dowson) and Merriman (Christopher Watkins), crackle with the rapier wit and acute observations that Wilde was, and is still, famous for.

Directed by Oriela van der Walt and Bridgette Dowson, the play will be presented at RLT’s exclusive new venue
